A day after the video of a Police Officer in a drunken state has gone viral on social media, he has been identified and a strict action has been taken against him.
What did Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi has said?
Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Monday said that he has been identified and suspended from duty.
“He has already been identified. Action has been initiated against him. He is placed under suspension”. Issuing a strict warning to his men, he said: “If any police officer is found drunk in uniform even during off-duty hours, this is totally unacceptable.”
“This is one of its kind incidents. It’s an exception; we should look for the rule, not for the exceptions,” he added.
The undated video, posted on Facebook by a user, showed the constable struggling to hold on to a pole while swinging back and forth inside a coach. The 36-second clip also showed the dishevelled policeman with his shirt untucked and trying to find his way around the coach in a drunken stupor. As the train braked to a halt at Azadpur station on Yellow line, the cop comes crashing down on the floor and is helped up by fellow passengers.
The Delhi Metro does not allow drunk commuters to board the trains, neither are passengers allowed to carry alcohol with them. According to DMRC rules, any person found drunk on Metro premises shall be fined up to Rs 500 and can be removed from the train or the station by an official.
